3:00PM - SATURDAY, MAY 11TH
Texas native, Grammy-winning songwriter Bonnie Bishop has been making music on the road almost her entire adult life. Raised in Houston, she graduated from the University Of Texas in Austin with a degree in Sociology and a minor in theater, planning to pursue musical theater after college. But when Austin piano player Riley Osborne took an interest in the young singer and helped her record her first demo of soul music in 1998, it forever changed her path. Osborne introduced Bishop to the local blues scene, where she got the fever for live music. After writing her first song by accident her senior year (inspired by a broken heart, of course) she fell in love with the songwriting process and began cutting her teeth onstage, playing her original music in bars, dancehalls, and honky tonks across Texas. She taught herself to play acoustic guitar and piano along the way, and landed her first publishing deal after six years on the road.
She recently released House Sessions: Vol. 1, a collection of acoustic songs from her early catalogue, and her forthcoming full band project, The Walk (produced by Steve Jordan), is set to release in the Fall of 2019. When she's not on the road, Bishop enjoys cooking, yoga, writing short stories, and working with Songwriting With Soldiers, a non-profit organization that pairs professional songwriters with veterans and active duty military and uses collaborative songwriting to build creativity, connections, and strengths.
